Mandatory Driving Course For 2010
The new mandatory driving course is in effect from January 17, 2010.
What you should know
The new driving education program consists of 39 hours of instruction.
The 39 hours of lessons are divided in the following manner : 24 of in class theory and 15 one hour driving lessons.
The program is comprehensive and includes the following five main principles : Alternating between theory and practice, self directed driving, ecodriving, OAR (Observe, Analyze, React) strategy in regards to the risks associated with driving
Here are the steps in chronological order :

Register at a Lauzon branch of your choice and make your initial payment.

After your registration, you must follow nine (9) mandatory hours of theory in class in order to take your learner’s permit test which is administered in class by one of our instructors at Lauzon. This learner’s permit test is considered the tenth (10) in-class our for phase one of the program. These 10 class ours must be done over the period of 30 days at a minimum.

After you pass your learner’s permit exam, a representative from Lauzon driving school will present you with a certificate ‘Proof’ that you have succeeded phase one of the program and are eligible to receive your learner’s license.

Once you have this certificate in hand, you will present it to an SAAQ office so they could present you with your learner’s license.
Present the following documents to the SAAQ to receive your learner’s permit after you have passed the learner’s permit test:
- Your certificate proving that you have passed the learner’s permit test at Lauzon Driving School.
- Two pieces of government issued Identification(2)
- A parental consent form, if you are under the age of 18.
5. Once you have your learner’s permit in hand, it means that you have been cordially invited the remaining 12 months of the driving course. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th phases of this course are divided into 14 additional classroom hours and 15 hours on the road with an instructor.
Important: Ten months after receiving your learner’s permit from the SAAQ, you will be eligible to take a second in class test which is administered at the SAAQ office. Find the SAAQ office closest to your place of residence to schedule this test.
6. This general theory test will be an all emcompassing test drawing questions from material taught in class and also material that is in the Driver’s Handbook. After successful completion of this 2nd test at an SAAQ branch, a delay of two months will begin. After those two months, you will be eligible to schedule your final road test.
It is mandatory for all students to complete the total 24 hours in class and 15 hours on the road with an instructor and also receive a certificate from the school stating that the student has completed the course before a student will be eligible to take their final road test.
As noted above, the entire process can be completed in a minimum time period of 13 months.
